Pauses in background

Previous version worked great, but I only use it now when my Jawbone dies. For about the past year when I use this app, it pauses in the background, even in the middle of a walk. I lose so much data. If I leave it up to keep it on, it devours battery. What was the improvement with the upgrade? I dont get it.
